SD — Home Movie film to DVD transfers

8mm home movie film to DVD: Our archival grade frame-by-frame film transfer method of film to video transfer ensures that the conversion of your standard 8mm film, Super 8 film, or 16mm home movies (silent or sound) to DVD are more than truly amazing. Hand crafted color and density correction, optional premium film restorative processes and the availability of high resolution Standard Definition (SD) DV film masters (free to your hard drive) in either Windows DV AVI or MAC DV MOV, only begin to describe our slate of film to digital conversion services.

HD — Home Movies to Blu-ray transfers

Transfer of 8mm, Super8 and 16mm home movies to Blu-ray disc or in YUV 4:2:2 format as HD film masters: Exceptional home movie film to HD digital conversion, using our proven frame by frame technique and custom designed high definition imaging system.  Our large imaging sensor and high resolving optics brings out the details of a film frame not possible using older SD technology.  True 2 MegaPixel raw BMP or TIFF image sequences for stunning image reproduction during Blu-ray playback. All of the options from our SD film services are available for the 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm HD film transfer services.

SD — Home Movie film to DVD transfers

Transfer your 8mm home movies to SD DVD fast and save money: Our new real-time film transfer system will get your home movie films converted to standard definition (SD) video on DVD disk in a fast and economical fashion.  We can transfer your 8mm, Super 8 film and 16mm home movies to DVD whether they be silent or have sound at no extra cost to you.

The films will be captured and processed as they are, in true express fashion and directly burned to standard DVD format.  As such, there is no editing of the digitized films and no scene by scene color correction done.

The Express approach does present some other compromises in which to be aware.  There may be some cropping to the film frames.  In addition, as with all Real-time systems, the output video will present judder and visually be a good degree softer when compared to the sharpness of our frame by frame system, as the adjacent video frames are blended during the capture phase of the telecine. The conversion in real-time of a 16fps or 18fps film to 30fps sequences does have its drawbacks. The film frames however will be evenly lit by our cool white LED backlight. 

As an option you can still get the DV AVI Film Masters for immediate computer based editing to do your own colour correction and content organization if you wish. The Express approach on the whole is meant to be purely turnkey - films to DVD direct.

Cost is set at a flat rate of $0.14/ft, with an additional $0.05/ft for the DV AVI option. Of course the DV AVI Film Masters are Free for download to hard drive if you provide one. All pricing quoted in Canadian dollars.

HD — Home Movies to AVCHD transfers

Transfer of 8mm, Super8 and 16mm home movies to DVD in AVCHD format at a great price: Another quality Express service from HomeDVD to convert your films quickly to DVD disk in AVCHD format. 

As an extension of our SD Express service, your films will be directly captured and encoded to AVCHD and burned to standard DVD disk. Output is in 16:9 format in 1920x1080 or 1280x720 resolution. We can transfer your movies to AVCHD on DVD whether they be silent or have sound at no extra cost to you. 

As in the Express SD case, there is no scene by scene color correction or broad based editing done to the digitized films nor any YUV AVI film masters produced.  Your films will be digitized as they are. This service is meant to be fast and economical, skipping several the very time consuming processing steps of our Archival film transfer method.

Real-time HD (High Definition) film transfers will present the same limitations as our SD Express, in terms of image softness and some image frame cropping.

As an option, you can have us put your widescreen unauthored AVCHD video to a USB stick rather than on DVD, if you wish to do your own editing and authoring at that level.  There is no extra cost for uploading your USB stick.

Pricing is set for $0.22/ft of film. AVCHD DVD's must be played on your Blu-ray player.  All pricing quoted in Canadian dollars.

Videotape to DVD transfers: All of the most popular camcorder and VCR based analog video tape formats like VHS, SVHS, VHS-C, SVHS-C, Video8 or 8mm video and Hi8 video tapes in addition to the more compact digital tape formats like Digital8 and MiniDV are supported for conversion and transfer to DVD recordable media. At no additional cost we also provide standard editing services to clean up your videos (no blue screens or long lengths of dead video), free image stabilization, audio equalization. We encode to DVD compliant MPEG-2 video files at a high rate to maintain the original video quality. We support both European (PAL) and North American (NTSC) broadcast standards and can provide digital video files in either Windows DV AVI or MAC Quicktime DV for DIY (Do It Yourself) frame accurate editing.

35mm slide to DVD transfers: We offer a true high resolution optical scanning process using professional Nikon film scanners—no poorly rendered software based interpolation, just real, clean and sharp reproduced images. We support 35mm mounted slide format, any length 35mm film strip(s) in either positive or negative form, APS (Advanced Photo System) IX240 film cartridges and photograph scanning to DVD.  Industry accepted and proven Digital ICE (defect removal) and Digital ROC (color restoration) is applied to all of your slides and photos at no charge while undergoing the digitization and conversion to DVD process.  Images that are reversed, mirrored or are not oriented properly are corrected and also provided to you free of charge.
